This is not “that kind of blog.” But I have been practicing Bach all day for a couple days, in my bubble, and then coming back to my computer to see ever more horrifying reports of New Orleans, Biloxi, and other places … and I have been disturbed by my ivory tower existence. So, though this is really a music blog, and I don’t want to opine on any of this human suffering, let’s just take a moment to consider donating to those in need.

Horrible images on CNN, and aside from donations of money the average person hundreds of miles away is unable to help out at all.
The feeling of helpless inadequacy is hard to deal with.
Denk,
Long time fan, first time comment.
Fascinating blog, please keep up the pithy observations.
Just a comment on your link to a donations sight. May I suggest that you link instead to Habitat for Humanity? The Red Cross is currently rather flush and is getting all the help advertising they can handle. Further, FEMA will actually pick up much of the tab for a lot of reconstruction and clean up. The people who will be left out once again will be the poor and uninsured and renters of tenements. May I suggest linking instead to Habitat for Humanity, which is a religiously affiliated group who rather helpfully channels funding based on need and where dollars go to those who really are most in need of a hand.
Just a suggestion. Please continue.
